OPEN FORUM FOR “USF FIBER TO THE UNION COUNCIL PROGRAM”
2nd July, 2019
Fiber connectivity is the foundation of modern data services, offering faster speed over longer distances, enhanced Reliability, Security and Lower Cost. Unfortunately, Pakistan today lacks deep fiber penetration. It’s a well-known fact that High speed Broadband links enable Telecommunication, Data Storage, Broadcast/CATV, Networking, Industrial/ Commercial, Medical, Defense and Government digital services such as e-Commerce, e-Finance, e-Health, e-Learning, e-Agriculture etc.
Considering this scenario, USF Board of Directors provided a principle approval to launch Fiber to Union Councils program connecting 3140 unserved union councils across the country. Before initiating the process for auction of OFC projects, USF will be collecting open feedback from all stakeholders to ensure that the program achieves the end goal of connecting all of Pakistan and provide maximum socio-economic uplift which may include but not limited to;
(i) The fiber termination points (locations) in Union Councils
(ii) Modalities of program such as timelines, priorities, lot sizes, etc.;
(iii) Mandatory infrastructure sharing models
(iv) End user services like WiFi hotspots and more
